Game Revenue Share Calculations

RoyaltyDesk calculates game revenue shares from your contract terms: platform fees, engine fees, territory rules, tiered splits and recoupment. The same data and rules always produce the same result.

How a revenue share is calculated

Net platform sales pass through ordered steps: platform fee, engine or regional shares, recoupment if applicable, then the partner split. Each step is a rule you define, not a spreadsheet formula.

    Multi-stream revenue pipelines

Combine platforms with identical terms into one stream, for example PlayStation in the US, Europe and Japan. Create separate streams only where the fee, pool or partner differs.

    Tiered and threshold-based splits

Model shares that change after revenue thresholds, and territory-specific rules where contracts require them.

    • Tiered allocations
    • Territory-specific rules
    • Partner-specific shares

    Recoupment pools

Advances and development costs are recovered before partner shares are paid out by the publisher. Balances are tracked across periods, including mid-period transitions to the post-recoupment split.

    Frequently asked questions

The percentage of game revenue a partner, such as a developer or IP owner, receives under their contract, usually after platform fees and agreed deductions.

No. Calculations follow fixed, explicit rules that you define, so results are deterministic and reproducible.

You decide per contract. Engine fees can be configured as a deduction; for example, engine fees may not apply to Epic Games Store sales depending on your agreement.

Both game publishers and game developers. Publishers create statements for the developers they publish; self-publishing studios create statements for co-developers, IP owners and other revenue-share partners.
